4th times the charm, Jesuit wins crown!

 Jesuit, a team runner up in the state finals the past three years, finally found their stroke of luck. In a grueling five match set on November 10th, the Crusaders came up with the championship win over the Roseburg Indians in the OSAA volleyball Finals, three to two.

Roseburg coming in to the finals with a 28-10 season record and a victory over Jesuit in their only season meeting, hoped to capitalize on some early service errors by Jesuit (28-5) in the first set. However, Jesuit recovered mid-set for the victory. The last kill for Jesuit was from Anne Elorriage off an Jessica Finn assist, and a final score of 25-23.

 

 

Roseburg were able to solidly take the second and third sets respectively, at 25-22 and 25-19 respectively.  From there Jesuit took control, decisively winning the fourth and fifth sets. The last set was a 15-8 victory, the largest point margin for the game.

For the game, Sophmore Ariana Wiltjer for Jesuit lead all scorers in the game with 22 kills. Junior Jessica Finn chimed in for the team at an impressive 51 assists. In the Roseburg losing effort, number 6 Raluca Gosmon led in kills with 15. Vanessa Bentley had 37 assists.

 

 

Jesuit finally obtains championship gold during their fourth playoff run after losing three consecutive years to the Central Catholic Rams. Roseberg settles for a well deserved silver.  Congratulations to both teams for put forth a valiant amount of effort, courage and tenacity  throughout the season and an amazing post-season playoff run.
